Saudi Arabia and Serbia are deepening their economic and diplomatic ties, aiming to strengthen partnerships across several sectors including energy, technology, agriculture, food industries, and trade. Recent discussions between the two nations have centered on collaborative energy projects and advancements in information and communications technology. Additionally, they are exploring agricultural partnerships and ways to enhance the presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market while encouraging Saudi investments in Serbia.
A significant development in their diplomatic relations was marked by a meeting in Belgrade, where Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This move is expected to streamline official exchanges between the two countries, further solidifying their growing relationship.
Trade between Saudi Arabia and Serbia is experiencing rapid growth. In 2025, bilateral trade reached $121 million, a substantial increase from the figures recorded in 2012. The momentum continued into the first half of 2026, with trade figures soaring to $130.4 million, a 152% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
The upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are anticipated to offer additional platforms for investment opportunities, business partnerships, and the exchange of expertise between the two nations. Saudi Arabia has already confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic progress, innovation, cultural heritage, and investment prospects.
Furthermore, both countries are investigating potential collaborations in science and technology. Serbia is also gearing up for the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, where it intends to participate with over 50 companies, showcasing its commitment to fostering bilateral cooperation and expanding its footprint in the Saudi market.
